Sweetwater Creek Trails

We left Curt and Irene’s house in Hampton. They were kind enough to drive to Sweetwater State Park in Lithonia, Ga. I had offered to drive though. We didn’t know whether Irene could make it because she had hurt her pinky toe. It was a beautiful day and sunny 65-70 degrees. We got to the first Visitor Center at the beautiful Lake called Jack. It was closed for the season, but they had another one closer to the Red and White Trail. We spent a little time there while reading about the history of the Grist Mill in the late 1800s. It was interesting how their days were. Lot different than today, when we have a lot of luxuries, back then it was hard. We then proceeded to hike along the beautiful Creek, the trail was rooty and rocky and steep in places. We had a nice wooded platform overlooking the old Gristmill and the tumbling waters of Sweetwater Creek. The Park Service had done some extensive work to help prevent erosion on it. Those that could not join us I hope you can do this beautiful Park.

The Park seemed pretty crowded, but the trail we took did not. After we hiked over 2 miles, we then took the White Trail which looped around. It was not as pretty, but it was a lot easier, it followed a gravel dirt road for a while. This Park is near Six Flags. The highway was busy but we kept moving.
