The rain gods did us a favor and held back the rains after a few intermittent down pours. We then headed out in a drizzle which stopped soon afterwards. The initial rains scared away three participants who headed home before we started.… I won’t name names! We had a most pleasant morning walking the “Pig Trail”, as the biking/hiking/running trail is called. Some of the highlights were a juvenile Dekay’s brown snake which Kerry and Bonnie held; yellow trout lilies and bluets, lovely shoals, a trillium forming a bud, beech trees with copper leaves.

The trail is mostly flat within a diverse environment. We strolled along Rocky Creek, straddled a few puddles on the trail, meandered through a pine forest, breezed through the “Pecan Grove” and then crossed an open field next to a lake with four turtles lazing on a log. Once back at the picnic shelter, we ate lunch and had some interesting conversation.

The Pig Trail totals over 9 miles. We took in a little over 3 of those miles. We will visit again.
Participants were Kerry Coburn, Dave Gardner, Mary Katz, Lynn Rivenbark, Basil Youman and trip leaders Bonnie Gehling and Margaret Clay.
