Biking Big Creek Greenway
Trip leader Curt Cole
On Thursday, Feb. 12, 2026, Curt Cole and Basil Youman biked the Big Creek Greenway Trail in Alpharetta for the first time. This is a concreted trail, about 9 miles long, 12’ wide, near North Point Mall. Other sections are planned to be constructed, and at least one web site claims there are 26 miles of non-contiguous trail currently open.

We began at North Point Park, near the southern end of the trail, and headed north. The trail mostly follows a sewer line clearing along the creek bottom, so it has little elevation changes, and is mostly wooded, but does go through some commercial areas, and along a four-lane parkway at one point. Curt rode all the way to the north end at Union Hill Park, then returned to the beginning. He also went a mile or so further into the Roswell city limits before returning to the parking lot at north Point, making for a roughly 20-mile day.

This is a very nice trail and there are plenty of shopping and eating opportunities in the area, including an REI store nearby.
