May 1-2, 2010 GWS Towaliga River canoe trip with Niki Queen
There was a early morning mist when seven GWS members and friends set out on the cool, clear water of the Towaliga River on Saturday morning. The current was swift enough to drift lazily in the narrow green corridor overhung with hardwoods, vines, ferns and shrubs. When the sun appeared the canopy kept us nearly in perpetual shade.
After setting up camp on a sandbar a few of us floated in the river current to cool off.
The honks, bleats and grunts of a chorus of frogs competed with our lively chatter around the campfire.
Sunday's paddle was more challenging. A couple of canoe carry overs and tree portages and a vicious head-wind on the Ocmulgee River. Deer, ducks and an osprey were sighted.
The trip participants were Terry and Rosemary Ross, Paul and Lauren Nuclo, Joe Mangum, Wayne Etheridge and Niki Queen.
