Wacissa & Aucilla Rivers, & Goose Pasture Camp, Oct 2005
A number of GWS folks and some guest experienced near perfect weather
for three days of Florida paddling. Each day offered a different, rich
habitat and paddling experience. The Wacissa is a crystal clear river
with amazing bird viewing opportunities. The Aucilla River is a smaller
black water river with mild rapids that disappeared into a sink hole at
the take-out. It is truly unique to paddle a river with plenty of
current that suddenly just stops. Slave canal is a small channel,
difficult to locate and often obstructed with dead fall, that captures
the imagination with dark beauty and sinister history. All together, it
was a wonderful, long weekend. And of course, Goose Pasture offered
us a great place to camp for three nights.
